Never before, never again. A Japanese idiom to describe the experience of life, and its changing nature. Just like the clouds in the sky, the waves in the ocean and the water in a river, every moment in our fleeting lives is unique. It has never existed before, and it will never exist again. Only in the here and now!
So in these days of quarantine, in addition to all the stress, anxiety and frustration we are feeling, what is slipping through our fingers is the unique nature of these moments, for they will not come to pass again. So reach out and touch the beauty of this moment, feel its soul and know that even in the greatest of trials lies a hidden wisdom, that is ours for the taking, if we so choose. Every moment is precious. Cherish it.
Read those books you have been wanting to read, the time you meant to spend with your family, the spiritual practices you said you will pursue one day, that hobby, those childhood friends – all those things you said you will do βwhen you had the timeβ. Here is that time. Yours for the taking. Maybe this is the moment you have been waiting for?
Time and life are precious. The wisdom in this, is starkly visible today. But then, this moment has never been before, so this could be experienced only now. And never again.
Ichi-go, ichi-e.
So very true. M loving every moment.
